Welcome to our Property Tax Blog

Grieve Your Taxes .com has taken over 4 years to design and since going public in January of 2009 has had over 10,000 visitors, and with this comes 10,000 questions and opinions. I created this blog for you to give those opinions and ask those questions and to get straight answers.

Tell me what you think about http://www.grieveyourtaxes.com/. I designed it, wrote the programs and developed the databases. Your opinion is important, it can only help make this site better.

So lets begin, post your questions, give your opinions and tell our property tax community what you think and just maybe we might get someone to listen. Be sure to tell others about this blog and Grieve Your Taxes .com

  1. Tony, I wish you the best of luck. We at Good Grievance take a similar approach on a national level. If you need some folks to talk with to set up an API with the Suffolk County Clerk to pull SCAR Index numbers online give me a call. Although many would consider us competitors I feel we are working toward a common purpose. By this time next year our platform can eliminate the paper process entirely. We are beginning to have Counties start trials for our Platform and would welcome your site with a direct feed if we can get them to use our web-based model. Either way, best of luck and we wish you great success and truly respect your offering the consumer choice. * Just a quick note... If the homeowner has to file a SCAR petition you should tell them they will need to upgrade to an appraisal since the Court will not accept AVM's or any other report without adjustments made for square footage, room count, lot size, baths, view etc..

Again, from everyone at Good Grievance.. keep up the good work and keep cutting costs.

  2. Well Tony, lets see how long you leave this comment up. You charge people even if they are not over-assessed and you encourage them to file without knowing if they have a case. How ethical is that?

  3. Thanks for your post Koko.

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to. If you took the time to look at our site and read our documentation you will plainly see that our system doesn’t “push” anybody to do anything. Each homeowner is presented with a “Property SnapShot” that outlines the possibilities for their property based on their current taxes and assessment. From this, each homeowner decides for themselves if they want to file. This is FREE and available anytime through the year. What could be more “up front” than that?

If I were you, I’d be more concerned about companies that have homeowners sign contracts before knowing anything about the property taxes, assessment or value. Stop by any of the home shows and you will find many such companies. Some even offering prizes in a raffle for signing. With other companies, you have no idea what’s going on until you receive a letter denying your petition. Now you are really stuck! Most grievance companies have a little paragraph that says you owe them their fee even if you file on your own and win within a year of signing their contract. Why anyone would sign such a contract is beyond me.

Lastly, why would I delete your comments, everyone is entitled to an opinion. More and more homeowners are realizing that there is no free lunch with these grievance companies and that spending some time to get to know our system can save a lot of money.

    Tony
